Okay. It was 1:30 pm in the afternoon, after lunch and his afternoon siesta. I didn't want to go to the playground just yet. We had a box filled with packing peanuts and an hour before hitting the slides.
Levi looked at the contents of the box and said, "white." Ho hum.
He fooled around with the peanuts, squeezing them and tossing them up like a salad inside the box. Hm.
We found this box interesting. While we sat there for a good while, messing around with the peanuts, my mind started working. He signed, "soft."
Then I had a joyous teaching moment (rare!): here is my chance to introduce some new action words: search/seek/look; find.
I slipped in his beloved orange car crayon (yes, one of the "fine" cars) and said, "Where's the orange car?" Levi started looking for the car in its usual place but I drew his attention back to the box.
Mama: The car is in the box. Where is the car? Mama is looking. Where is the car? Mama is searching, searching, searching.
I fished around for the car and drew it out.
Mama: Mama found the car! Mama found! Found!
Levi was beside himself. I dropped the car back into the box. The game was on.
After repeating, "where's the car?" Levi joined in.
Mama: Where's the car?
Levi: Where?!!!! (his where is pretty expressive so hence the exclamation points)
Mama: Mama and Levi search.
Levi: Search.
Levi reached in and drew out a peanut. Nope.
Then he spied something orange. Carefully, ever so carefully Levi reached in.
Now who's feeling rather clever?
By the time we finished fooling around with this brilliant box, it was time to head for the slides. Now who's feeling rather clever?
