Our Morning Thing

Amazon.com dropped off Levi's yellow rain boots in the rain late one evening.
Levi had already gone down for the night and Douglas was out of town for a performance.  I added the boots to his morning surprise and waited until 6 am the next day for Levi to wake up.

This is a morning thing for Levi.

After Levi goes down for the night, we choose a few items from his toy box and set it up in the middle of the room.  Sometimes it is an elaborate setup (a scene involving figures and animals).  Sometimes it is simply blocks stacked high up.  Sometimes it is one of his favorite toys (currently a flashing school bus).  Sometimes it is a toy lost and found.

In the morning we wake up slowly, cuddling with the little fella until he says, "Upstairs."  Then we bring him upstairs where he spies the surprise.  I love the way he squats and examines the setup appreciatively before swooping in for some voracious play.

The morning Pop was out of town, the yellow rain boots waited on the rug.

The yellow rain boots sat between two plastic plates, one empty and the other filled with Playmobil figures.  Levi zoned on the new boots and wanted to put them on.  He stomped around for some time, forgetting to check out the display.  He found that he had to squat differently when examining and playing with the setup.  He was still wearing them when I finished my daily cup of coffee.  By the time his grandparents arrived for their visit, Levi was wearing a different shirt but still had the yellow boots on.

This is a little morning thing that we have with Levi.   We will keep doing this as long as we can because it makes the morning so much more.
